Key Responsibilities of the Pharmacist

• Accept and dispense prescription medications
• Monitor patient medication compliance and over-usage patterns
• Ensure that the supply of medicines is within the law
• Accurately maintain confidential records of all patients
• Advise patients about medicines, including usage and reactions
• Provide consultation on medication storage, dosage, side effects, and drug interactions
• Offer patient services like smoking cessation, blood pressure and cholesterol management
• Educate on handling of medical devices like blood pressure monitors
• Compound medications and prepare sterile solutions
• Supervise pharmacy staff members
• Maintain inventory on pharmaceutical and medical supplies
• Identify and communicate patient drug-related problems to healthcare practitioners

Requirements of the Pharmacist

• Doctor of Pharmacy degree required
• Licensed by the state pharmacy board
